How Many More?

How many more bodies will it take for this to stop? The Toronto police are again under investigation for the death of a Black/Indigenous person: Regis Korchinski-Paquet. This comes just days after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and   the incident in Central Park where another Black person, Christian Cooper, had police called on him by a white woman simply because he asked her to put her dog on a leash in an area where it was required. There is outrage and there is grief and fear for Indigenous and Black communities.

As Minneapolis and several other cities in the United States burn with protest, anger, and grief, Toronto grieves the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet. The United Jewish People’s Order (UJPO)-Toronto stands in solidarity with Indigenous and Black communities demanding justice. We call on the SIU to do a proper and transparent investigation into the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet. We mourn with our comrades in the US the death of George Floyd, Briona Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless other Black and Indigenous people who have lost their lives at the hands of police and white supremacists. May all their memories be blessings.
